Ultra Cameo

4 posts in this topic

I am very new to coin collecting and am sifting through all the various terminologies to be better prepared when making purchases. I keep coming across the term "ultra cameo", which seems to more valueable. I looked online and in my coin guides, but don't find any specific references. What does "ultra cameo" mean.l

Ultra Cameo is a designation exclusive to NGC. Proof coins are given the designations of Cameo and Ultra Cameo by the amount of frost of the relief. Coins given the Ultra Cameo designations have fully frosted thick cameo relief’s on both sides of the coin. It is only then do we designate the coin as Ultra Cameo.

Yes, so if the coin is not labeled as Cameo or Ultra Cameo it can be sent in for Designation Review and if it is it will be labeled as such.
