NCS' history

How many years of research were needed before NCS could open up their doors? Also, did you start by hiring any scientists or coin doctors? I would like to know a little bit more on how NCS started and how they developed their techniques. Thanks.

Thanks for your question.

1. How many years of research were needed before NCS could open up their doors?

---NCS marks the culmination of many decades of experience in numismatics and conservation. While some of the staff collected coins and become professional numismatist, other staff have more traditional coin and conservation backgrounds through working in museums.

---This combination of knowledge of the minting process and specialized knowledge of original surfaces and grading, along with tremendous amounts of study and application of conservation techniques is what really sets us apart from traditional conservators. Conservation is much more than knowing what will remove a particular contaminant...the conservator must be able to grade the coin and see how the procedure will change the appearance.

Also, did you start by hiring any scientists or coin doctors?

---We started by hiring numismatists and conservators while also consulting a variety of other scientists and conservators.

I would like to know a little bit more on how NCS started and how they developed their techniques.

---NCS is constantly researching and developing new techniques. We have a base of test coins and carefully monitor the treatment methods and the subsequent stability of the item. We also carefully select the materials and equipment used in the laboratory for purity and stability. You would really be surprized how much time, effort and resources have been devoted to ensuring results of the highest caliber.
