Can this matte proof Lincoln be helped?

2 posts in this topic

The black spot above the date really takes away from the looks of the coin. I guess it's a carbon spot and I worry it might grow over time. It's now in a PCGS 65 holder.

Can the spot be toned down a bit without messing with the rest of the toning?

Thanks

Spots such as the one on your copper coin can be difficult to remove. It is possible in some cases that the spot can be removed while retaining the color on the remainder of the coin while in other cases if the spot can be removed, the overall color will be changed. When it comes to a copper coin, it can be particularly difficult to remove a spot without changing the rest of the color. It would be best to submit this coin for a full evaluation.
