Grading opinions at show

3 posts in this topic

Generally, advice is worth approximately what you pay for it.

Just as I wouldn't ask a medical doctor for a free checkup at a physician's convention, I wouldn't expect NGC to provide free professional opinions at a coin show.

Well, it certainly is something we've looked at numerous times. We keep coming back to the idea that if you are getting an opinion from one person, that opinion may not be representative of the NGC grade. When an opinion contrary to the actual grade received by NGC is given by a single person it could be perceived as a bit damaging to credibility. I realize others may disclaim the opinion but it just doesn't matter in the mind of some. Occasionally at shows, Brian Silliman of NCS will give authentication opinions and Dave Lange of NGC will offer variety attributions.
