Caring Numismatists Christmas Charity Drive- The B00M Foundation III

23 posts in this topic

Hello everyone,

There are many here that already know me from across the street where I use the same ID. On eBay I sell under the ID, pittbreeder. I've been a member of the ANA for quite a few years now, longer than the Registry has been in existence, for sure, and submit coins both here and across the way. Some of you may know that I am a Washington Quarter specialist and am the owner of B00M's Quarters, then again you may not know me at all. I'm trying to introduce myself to those among you that DO NOT know me because I want to share something with you. So, if you have a few moments to spend reading, I'll get on with it.

I've asked the Moderators if I could have permission to post this before doing so as I have absolutely no intention of inadvertantly breaking Forum rules and regulations. If you would REALLY like to save time then at this point I would simply suggest you go on over across the way to the US Coin Forum and look for the locked in first thread by a very similar name, originated by me. It should stay locked at the top for at least a week. OK, so what's this all about?

For the better part of my life I have always sought out truly disadvantaged people....the lonesome shut-ins that were once somebodies, children that did not, nor would they ever, know their biological Fathers, Moms that deprived themselves for the sakes of their children....disabled old war veterans, old folks that had no one left....no one to check on them or to see to it that they had the basic staples of life....again, the downtrodden, lonely, disadvantaged who would otherwise not have a Christmas.

I would do all that I could in total anonimity to see to it that they had some semblance of a Christmas and if but for just one day, they knew SOMEBODY cared. The beauty of this sort of experience is to see the kids look up at me with awe in their eyes. Old timers would actually shed tears because SOMEBODY thought of them. This is a very rewarding and moving experience. I learned the true meaning of Christmas this way and it always left me feeling absolutely ecstatic. No other feelings I had ever experienced even remotely compared with these. This is what Christmas means to me.

This is a big part of who and what I am all about. It's so deeply engrained in me that I don't think I could NOT do this. Regardless, two years ago I invited the folks across the way to take part in this with me.

People were literally standing in line to give... and give they did, to the tune of $2500 last year. Every last dime was accounted for. Furniture was purchased for an elderly couple that had lost everything and literally had to sit and sleep on the bare floor. Gifts were purchased for a LOT of little kids that actually had no clue what Christmas was. Bags of goceries were purchased for families that otherwise would have not had a Christmas Dinner and were given out anonymously. Dinners were prepared and were brought into the poorest sections of this City that most people would be afraid to go and everything transpired without incident each and every year.

Being I am an ANA Member and a Member of The Collectors Society, I thought I would at least offer each and every one of you the chance to get involved with this yearly tradition. I'll give you time to digest all of this and to check me out thoroughly.

Ask all the questions you care to and if for some reason you want to flame on me without checking me out, by all means, it's your perogative. It's really simple when you get down to it.

It's all about compassion and the true Spirit of Christmas. Whether or not you decide to take part is entirely up to you. It's just something that one guy started all alone many years ago which has now grown to be a Christmas Charity for the needy from the Numismatists of the world. You ARE ALL Numismatists, aren't you? Are you going to do something without expecting anything in return or are you just going to read this, shrug it off and sit on your hands?Personally, I cannot believe that of you.

Even if no one wants to take part I have at least done what I set out to do....to invite you all to take part in the 3rd Annual Caring Numismatists at Christmas Charity Drive. The B00M Foundation would be honored to have you all participate and even if you don't, you're still a Numismatist and will be included by default.

Any guys from across the street want to explain what's really going on to the folks here that do not know me, by all means, please do so. I'd like to thank the Moderators for allowing me to post this invitation.

It give me great pleasure to inform you that within the first 72 hours this Drive has netted right at $996.45. If you're a Numismatist then it's YOUR Charity because I want it that way....NOT MINE so let's get the Spirit around here and see if we can't scrape a few coins together (pun intended)

Thank you,

B00M

I am very pleased to update you all and a special thanks goes out to Jabba for all his efforts and donations. As of now, 11/11/05 1:05 CDT our Charity Drive has now netted right at $1200.00. Thank you all. It is very much appreciated and will serve to make many people quite a bit happier this Christmas season. 893applaud-thumb.gif

This Charity, which in effect is from The Caring Numismatists of the World for the needy at Christmas, I am proud to say that as of this moment has grossed $1367.00.

PayPal fees come to $46.27 therefore our new net total is $1320.73. A complete breakdown as to Names of donors of money, coins that were auctioned thus far etc can be viewed across the street.

Special thanx goes out to Jabba. We have only just begun and in week One we have already made such great progress that this year will especially touch the lives of many here that have recently lost everything due to two Cat 5 Hurricanes.

I went to Hopedale, Louisian over the weekend and was simply in awe at what my eyes beheld. Fishing/ Shrimp boats sitting in the tops of huge trees...such complete and utter devastation. The weekend before, I went to the opposite boundary of my State and where there once was a beautiful, bustling Community of gorgeous "Camps"/ Beach houses, now there is absolutely nothing left. I just cannot get over what has happened or the fact that somehow I was right between the paths of these two monsters and came away literally unscathed. It really makes me think! foreheadslap.gif

Hi everyone,

I will do my utmost to get back here later today to share the latest figures with you. I don't have them in front of me but would like to also tell you all that in just the early stages we are on pace to surpass last year's net total of $2500. I've noticed that many here, like myself, also happen to be members across the street and even if you aren't you are able to view the latest on those Message Boards.

Ya know, it's OK to talk to me, to write to me via email or by PM. I don't bite contrary to the man eating Bengal Tiger I have as my Avatar here.

I am also happy to say that to all that donate, YOU all will be eligible for a nice giveaway ending soon. This is a little extra thank you exclusively for donors and there will be more to follow. The bottom line is OUR Numsimatic Charity is doing quite well and I wanted to at least share this with you along with the giveaway info. Should you care to write, use quarterguy@bellsouth.net. This is also the same address to use for PayPal donations.

If you DO donate, be sure to include your Forum ID so that you can be duly credited and obviously to become eligible for the aforementioned giveaways. That's all for now. I'll try to get back here later. Have a great day.

Regards,

B00M

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd bring you all up to speed as to what is going on with our Christmas Charity Drive. Although I do not have the exact figures before me I am happy to announce that at present, on Thanksgiving Eve, we have grossed over $1900 and are on step to beat last year's record of $2500.

We have some GREAT giveaways in store for all who donate funds or items to be auctioned to raise funds. If your Name appears on the Master list which is on my sig line across the street, you are automatically eligible for the present giveaway donated by Hiyosilver, a PCGS 67 Washington Quarter, along with all future givaways. The ONLY way to become eligible for these giveaways is to get on that list is by donating funds or items to raise funds.

If you so choose you may contact me at quarterguy@bellsouth.net This is also the same address we will use for PayPal contributions and don't worry about the fees as they will be covered as well. If you want to send items or a hard check you will need to contact me for my personal mailing address.

At present we are preparing for a second auction open only to forumites here or across the way. So far we have a beautiful half disme donated by LeeG, a set of Uncirculated War Nickels donated by Numismania, an NGC 65 2004-D ( I think) Statehood Quarter multi coin slab and I think a few Morgans donated by MorganHunter2 and lastly, a beautiful album toned 1879-S NGC 64 Morgan donated by yours truly that looks like it could quite easily go 65.

Well, that's it for now. If you have any questions either drop me a PM or email me at quarterguy@bellsouth.net

Have a Happy Thanksgiving all. wink.gif

Well, I thought I'd come here today for a couple of reasons. First of all, I'd like to tell you that the Caring Numismatists for the Needy at Christmas Charity Drive has today eclipsed the $2000.00 mark

Secondly, I'd like to invite you all to take part in the Charity Auction now going on in the US Coin Forum across the way. There are some nice NGC certified items being auctioned off as well as other items of Numismatic value including some really good books and, believe it or not, one donor has even offered a day on his Charter Boat out of Rhode Island, anytime this upcoming year. (a $500 package!)

Immediately after this current auction which ends 12-4-04 at 8:00 PM EDT, I am geared up to commence a Second Auction. Simply look for the Charity Auction thread. If you care to take part just contact me via my email address and I can place the bids for you. On my sig line is the actual Charity Drive thread. Any and everyone that donates funds or items to this Drive will have their Names put on the Master List which is updated daily. This makes everyone on that list eligible for exclusive GIVEAWAYS.

Lastly, I have come here to publicly thank my friend, Mr.John Plowman (a fellow Washington Quarter Registry participant here at NGC) for his outstanding generosity. He has sent me FIFTY 1971 US Mint sets, Ten 1960 US Proof Sets, Five 1965 Special Mint Sets, Five 1966 Special Mint Sets, Five 1967 Special Mint Sets, Five 1968 US Proof Sets and Ten 1970 US Proof Sets as a donation to this Charity. This is truly outstanding and somehow, "Thank You" just doesn't seem like enough but Thank You John.

Now I have the task of trying to decide what to do with it all so as to make the most of his gift. I am seriously contemplating asking either NGC or PCGS or maybe a couple of authorized Dealers to get all this bulk submitted. If anyone here has any opinion on the subject or should either NGC or an authorized Dealer want to step forward, I would be most grateful.

Anyway, I guess that's it for now. It was actually past time for an update but, by God, you're sure all up to speed now. Take care all and have a safe and Happy Holiday Season. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Peace,

B00M 893applaud-thumb.gifthumbsup2.gif

Why not just sell the sets raw? Or are they all high grade or have Cameos?

Good luck Warren! thumbsup2.gif

Hi Hayden. I saw a lot of quality coins in those Mint sets, for sure. The sheer enormity of this gift is overwhelming. I know for a fact that there are some coins in what I DID manage to look through that are going to grade QUITE nicely.

BTW, I am ALWAYS open to suggestions and opinions.

Thanks Hayden.

Hi everybody,

Can I maybe get a little help from NGC or an authorized NGC Dealer? I've got all this nice material that John donated that would sure grade well and fetch more money for this Charity Drive if they were all certified? 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Sounds good. Why don't you take care of that for me? Here are the present Auction's latest #s. This auction ends Sunday Nite at 8:00PM EDT 12-4-05.

Hopefully we will have an ensuing auction. So far I have a few items that have been donated (like John's) but I need some help if we're going to raise some serious bucks.

I'd either need some cooperation from NGC ceritfying all the nice things listed earlier in this thread donated by John Plowman or the cooperation of a Major Dealer/ submitter. What a nice plug it would be for NGC, the ANA or said Dealer, afterall this IS a Charity in the Name of the Numismatic Community as a whole.

What a fantastic opportunity...all these coins and advertisement for said Dealer, the ANA and or NGC! Think about it. Here we are at the beginning of December and poised to blow by last year's total of $2500 which the year before said it couldn't be done BUT WAS.

The clock is ticking man and I don't have time to lose. HELP!!

There are a LOT of hurting people down here that have lost EVERYTHING between TWO Cat 5 Hurricanes...remember?? MABEN....Calling John Maben! Can I get a little help here?

Don't forget, everyone, Charity Auction #1 ends tonight at 8:00PM EDT.

I could sure use the help of NGC or an authorized NGC Dealer in getting all this super material John Plowman donated certified for our cause.

Have a great day all.

Hey everybody,

Just a quick note to let you all know that the first auction has concluded and that our Charity Drive is doing exceedingly well. I will bring you all up to speed on updated figures later as there is much to do as well as huge decisions to make.

Till then I remain,

OUR LATEST NUMBERS

This is something to truly be proud of. Notice the time. I've been at it for almost 24 hours now. I think it's time for a nap.

My fellow Numismatists....after a very long day I am proud to say that as of this moment, not counting items still left to be sold or auctioned, not including what is still left to be collected, our numbers are as follow:

GROSS, INCLUDING DONATIONS, OUTRIGHT SALES AND AUCTION, COMES TO........................................ $2740.00

LESS PAYPAL FEES................................................................................................................................... $ 81.49

*************************************************************************************************

TOTAL NET AS OF THIS MOMENT...............................................................................................................$2658.51

It just goes to show that with perseverance and unbridled support of but a small percentage of the Numismatic Community, all things are possible. To some, this may be a drop in the proverbial bucket but to the people we normally target AND particularly, to the many people just in my surrounding area that have literally lost EVERYTHING, including their Homes, this figure, to them, is a Godsend. I cannot put into words just how elated, how proud I am...proud of all of YOU.

There is still much to be done as I must decide in a hurry, whether to do a bulk submission with the pristine coins Mr. John Plowman has so generously donated or to just sell them outright or to auction them here. He, by no means, had to do what he has done. Mr. Rick Montgomery has offered me a submission price but therein is the gamble. Not only is it a gamble but it is also a race against the clock. I do not see how they could grade all the coins in question here, get them back to me and auction them in time for Christmas.

This endeavor would involve risking this Charity money and more if I do go that route and the very last thing we need is a Charity that winds up in Red Figures. Therefore I submit to you that I will consider submitting maybe some of those coins....the coins that would be worth the money invested.

I have consulted a few trustworthy, learned and very well respected people here and very well just may sell or auction these pristine coins here and let you reap the benefits. It's been a long day and it's time for some rest before we go at it one more time. I just want to make the most of this opportunity because I truly doubt it will ever manifest itself again....but then, you never know.

Regardless, I want to thank everyone involved. We still have a couple of weeks to really get after it therefore monetary donations as well as more items to auction would be greatly appreciated as this is truly a great cause and the ground floor of what I hope to see become a bona-fide Charity in the Names of Numismatists everywhere, before my time on this planet is up.

45 people have helped to make a special day for so many hurting families. Just imagine what we could do in years to come with the cooperation of more within the Numismatic Community.

They said, it couldn't be done. I like challenges. Looks like "THEY" were wrong. Good night all. It's been a long Day and I'll be back at it tomorrow.

All the best,

B00M wink.gif

Tonight, 12-15-05, at exactly 10:00 PM CST the SECOND Charity Auction culminated, grossing $837.50 with items mostly donated by my friend, Mr John Plowman of the Washington Quarter Registry right here at NGC. He donated everything but 1)a Day of sailing on a Chartered Yacht out of Rhode Island (donated by Outhaul from across the street, 2)an item which, Oh by the way just so happened to be an NGC multi-coin holder housing the 2004 -P Statehood Quarters graded NGC 65, donated by another very good friend of mine known as MorganHunter2 and 3) 4 rolls...ORIGINAL, untouched rolls of 1979 Kennedy Halves donated by claychaser).

Here is exactly what our Charity has grossed as of this moment...Here are the details as copied from across the way but first I want to let everyone know that although the Auctions are done with, the CHARITY DRIVE IS NOT...so if you get the urge it's not too late to help some very needy people that have literally lost everything due to TWO Cat 5 Hurricanes within a Month's time. If you DO get the urge to help and be a part of this record setting Drive simply email me at quarterguy@bellsouth.net.

Also, before I divulge these latest numbers, I wish to extend a heartfelt Thank you to Mr. John Maben and Mr. Rick Montgomery. Rick, if the same opportunity presents itself agaain next year it gives me great satisfaction to know that you placed an offer on the Table and I hope to take you up on it. Without further adieu, it gives me great pleasure to have copied the following to share with ALL of you. Here we go.

OK, let's see if I can get through this. If you spot any errors, please speak up.

All items will, at the very least, with possibly the exception of just a couple, will be shipped Priority Mail, insured when warranted and with Delivery Confirmation for Track & Confirm Purposes.

I would like to thank everyone involved for making this year's Christmas Charity such a HUGE success.

Item #1- Won by Oreville for $175.00. Now there's a man that knows a bargain when he sees one. Thanx Robert & Bob.

Items #2 ($32) & 3 ($25), four parts of item # 10 ($80), part of item # 11 ($45) and item #12 ($20) were won by 2Bucks. A special Thank you goes out to Trevor for all that he has done to make this year's Charity a HUGE success. Thanx Trev- Total due- $202.00.

Items #4 and 3 parts of item #10 won by JohnK- Total due- $85.00...Thank you John.

Items #s 5,6,7,8 & 9 won by Lindedad.. This is well over 6 pounds of US Mint sets that will be shipped using a big US Priority Mail Flat Rate box ($7.70) and will be insured for the winning amount of $125.00. Thank you Syl for participating as well as donating also playing an integral part in making this year's Drive a Reality. Your generosity is very much appreciated and I'd like to thank you both personally as well as publicly.

Ibzman wins part of item # 11 with a bid of $50 along with part of item #13 ($25). Total due $75.00 Thank you Herb for your participation along with your donation. They are greatly appreciated.

Hyperion wins parts of item #11 @ $52 and item # 13 with a bid of $15- Total due- $67.00 Thank you for all you have done.

Millertime wins 1 part of item # 13 with a bid of $12.50 - Thanx for everything Shane.

MrXray wins 1 part of item #13 with a bid of $11.00 along with item #14 ($85)- Total Due- $96.00...Thank you Jeremy.

I think that just about covers it. Everybody, PLEASE check to make sure that everything is in order here and that the amounts due are in fact correct.

All of these items were donated by my friend, Mr John Plowman, an active participant in the Washington Quarter Registry across the street. This Charity owes John a debt of gratitude for without this One Man's compassion and generosity there would not have been a second auction.

Total realized here grosses a whopping- $837.50 minus the PayPal fees which will be taken care of as promised. I do not have the exact figures before me but from memory, thus far, not counting any further donations, this Drive, because of all of you has brought in well over $4000, a figure that may stand as a record for many years to come.

On behalf of the entire Numismatic Community it gives me great pleasure to now really get to work and to represent you all. There is still MUCH to be done...believe me...hey, but for me, it's a Labor of Love. Truth be known, money has already begun to be distibuted with the very first donation being given to Toys for Tots. This is undoubtedly going to be the most fulfilling Christmas to date.

Again, although the Auctions have culminated, the Caring Numismatists for the Needy at Christmas Drive is very much still open

OK Guys and Gals, I simply want to share the following numbers with you but before I do I want to impress upon all of you that although the Numismatic Community is very large, THIS is what 50 or so people did accomplish in little over a Month.

Remember the Numismatic Christmas Charity? OUR NEWEST TOTAL (NET) is a WHOPPING $4106.94. All PayPal fees have been covered except for $4.65. And, oh by the way, this is by no means finished. I cannot divulge the biggest secret of all but suffice to say that this figure is going to be matched by someone...OK? I will not tell you by whom but if you think for just a minute or two, you MIGHT just figure it out!

I believe I have kept all of you posted in my other thread on a daily basis at it's origin, across the street. This Charity is a Reality and is in it's 3rd year involving all Numismatists. Just imagine what could happen in years to come.

Merry Christmas everyone and I wish all of you a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year.
