restoring darkly toned coins

I have a seated dime that is darkly toned - I suspect it was stored in a paper 2x2 envelope for several years. Can this tonng be removed to look more natural. I fear the standard dipped look that whitens everything.

When a coin has become very darkly toned, a lightening of that toning is typically what will be done with conservation. Complete toning removal of a coin that has been heavily toned will often make the coin appear unnatural.

 

As with any coin you have a special concern with, feel free to make a note of what you would like to see done on the submission form when you submit it. These notes are considered in both the evaluation and conservation stages of the process.
