What does the "W" grade designation mean on MS coins (MS67 W)?

2 posts in this topic

I recently saw a 2001-D North Carolina quarter that was in an NGC holder certifed as "MS67 W". What does the "W" designation mean? I searched on the main website but couldn't find any mention of it. Is it similar to the Star designation (a dealer told me that was the case).

Thank you for your help!

The "W" you see is for a short-lived program where we designated white coins as "W" and toned coins were designated "T". NGC discontinued to denote this years ago. The coins can be sent in for reholder if the owner wishes it to be removed.

Thanks,
