Broken Nickel

4 posts in this topic

Hello RWB-----Not broken in half but I have an 1895 that is "Struck Thru". Used to think it was a "trial piece". It is the most unusual coin in my collection---almost. It has some areas of the design that are totally gone---other letters and star that is correctly struck. Rim is absolutely perfect all the way around. Yet most of what should be there just isn"t struck. Coin is "totally original". Have no idea of its value but I would never sell it due to its uniqueness. Bob [supertooth]

Bob,

Thanks for your error strike info. The error I'm trying to locate relates to a specific problem at the Philadelphia Mint in 1895. It is one of the few "old" errors for which there is clear documentation of the cause and correction.
