My most recent grades from across the street

13 posts in this topic

I hope it isn't bad form to post a few highlights of grades I finally got. After waiting 54 business days, I can't help but be euphoric! And if anyone can give me a ballpark idea of value I'd really appreciate it. The value will be more, though, because these have spectacular toning. Note, none for sale. smile.gif They've already been added to my 20th century registry set here.

Congrats Neil. My last submission over there took a little more than two months and they were submitted under their regular service mad.gif .

I've no idea what your coins are worth, but they seem to be a joy to you! smile.gif

If I read your post correctly, you got a 55-D 25c in a 66 holder..let me be the first to congratulate you? If it's blast white in a PCGS holder your looking at or around $500-$750 easily.

If you think it is better resubmit it....the pop on a 66 is less than I believe 90 coins.

Anyway congrats on your submission's.

Not that I would, but I would buy 55-D's at that price...if they were white, and put them on e-bay. I watch and collect washington's,Ebay price's for P*GS are going for the stated prices in my previous thread, and in NGC I've seen them go for over $ 100...and in some of the top seller's or coin house's you just don't see them in a 66 holder for sale.

In any event NWCS got a pretty nice quarter!

Good grades on those coins, especially the '55-D Washington. I won't buy them for the prices that they are commanding, however, depending on the look you can realize quite a bit for that coin. These are probably all from the same Mint Set, is that correct? If so, I would think that they have some level of a blue tone to them.

ms66quarters, I don't deal in these coins that much, so I have no real reference for the price. It was the only MS66 1955-D 25¢ that I could find. It had no picture, so I didn't know if it was a monster toned coin.

I've got to start searching for those if that's what they are bringing.

In my experience the strike is what keeps relatively clean coins of this date and mint out of MS66 holders. I can find fairly mark-free coins with decent luster but they can come mushy. Not an attractive issue overall.

From reading some of the posts on the other board, some of the specialist said that a blast white coin would bring more of a premium than a nicely toned one. The one's I've seen for sale had some toning (mint set) versus blast white which probably come from roll's.

The one of got (NGC-66) is 99% white.

I've got two blast white 55D's in NGC MS66 that I bought from R+I some time ago. Both are are very well struck and not dipped out at all, but they don't have very much natural luster - looks like they are from rolls. This date is generally unattractive in my experience. The problem with them is the bag marks. Both have several large, deep marks. Gouges actually. I sent one back to NGC for appearance review, but they sent it back with the same grade.

Thanks for the info, guys! It's been so long since I saw the coins, I can't remember specifically about the 55d's look. When I sent it in, I knew not to expect a 66 so I was expecting a 65. But I'm quit epleased. I do remember that it wasn't blast white. The franklins have incredible toning. The other franklin was a MS65. All of them came from the same mint set. Had 2 MS66 1955 cents in it, too. I'll be posting pix when I get them back.
