Interesting Dime Variety

Shown is a NGC-MS65, 1860-P, S.L. Dime (Longacre/Paquet Variety). This variety has Type one Liberty (full figure) design, with Longacre motto added, five vertical lines above liberty in shield obverse and Type I (cereal) reverse. This variety was only struck in 1860 and part of 1861. In 1861, Liberty figure was made slimmer and 6th line was added above Liberty in shield. Gerry Fortin lists this variety as R-4 scarcity. NGC population is (86) with (14) graded MS65 and (12) graded higher.

ANR has an 1861, MS65 example of the same dime variety listed in the C.L. Lee Auction (Lot 251). Note: All major collections of Seated Liberty Dimes, on both sides of street do not list any MS65 specimens of this date and variety.
