Is this a Gen 1 PCGS holder???

10 posts in this topic

Yes.

Most agree that PCGS's grading standards were more strict in the beginning, so you may see someone brag about the coin in an older holder. It definately gets a second look by most collectors. Others argue that the coins wouldnt be in the older holders if they could grade higher. Depends on the coin I guess.

Cameron Kiefer posted on another thread a while ago. If he sees your thread, he should be able to answer your question on whether or not it's first generation or later. It appears to be first generation based on the pictures on his website. Here's the link: C. Kiefer's Website

Your picture is not the generation 1 PCGS holder. They had no border frame (they had a beveled border), they were smaller and they rattled. They are often referred to as "rattlers".

That is a rattler. I can see the beveled border in the pic... it is just hard to see. Plus check the generations thread I posted. Conder101 would know if there are non rattlers that look like them. grin.gif

Mike's price seems a little high to me. He has had this coin for a while. Also it is in a rattler, first gen. PCGS holder.
