   The images are rather poor quality but, based on what appear to be an unusually shiny surfaces and areas of exposed copper, your coin is a normal 1944 cent that was plated. This was frequently done as a high school science experiment decades ago and might have been also done to create either a novelty or to pass as a 1944 "steel" cent. A weight of 2.99 grams would be within tolerance for a normal brass cent (3.11 grams plus or minus 0.13 gram).
