I see the letter N underneath the S in the word trust. Would this be considered an error.

Not an error, just a circulation mark on the coin that looks like a N.

Typically the only thing that would produce additional lettering on a coin that is also out of place would be a die clash. I checked the site Mad Die Clashes for the overlay of a Jefferson nickel and found that there would be no image of a letter in the space where you believe to be an extra letter on your nickel. Therefore, I agree with Greenstang that it just appears to be an N but it is just circulation and the way the coin has developed its coloration from circulation.
