Didn't see anything about "fake coins" being made (certainly not counterfeits ?)....I wonder about the 25,000 tons held by Indian households, that dwarfs the Indian Central Bank holdings.

Somebody get me REWRITE!  NO EDITORIALIZING!  THE BBC IS PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF CHARACTERIZING THE CONTENT OF ITS PRESENTATIONS:  THIS IS AN INTERESTING ARTICLE ABOUT INDIAN GOLD REFINERS.  Period.  Keep it up Roger, and you'll never get to work for The New York Times (without a chaperone!)

Sorry to be obtuse. There was a thread on these boards about Indian jewelers making and selling counterfeit sovereigns as a way of selling gold to customers. It included a clear statement from one of the jewelers that the OP contacted. That was triggered by the BBC article's statement about "making coins."
