1990 Penny Question 1 1

[Lost in the Groove]

Is this just a minor issue that happened during the strike to cause this or did the planchet have a defect before it was struck?  I appreciate everyone's input.

It looks like a Ridge Ring caused by a deteriorating die.    
Just part of the minting process.

Ditto the delamination of the coin's copper mascara on the Reverse. Nothing new. Just a part of the minting process we have grown accustomed to.

   Error-ref.com classifies the "ridge ring" as a form of severe or "design devouring" die wear that is commonly seen on copper-plated zinc cents.  See https://www.error-ref.com/?s=design+devouring+die+wear.  Coins struck from worn dies generally do not command a premium.

Hmmm, does you're Ole Lady put on plating when you are getting ready to go out for dinner?   

P.S.  From a few hints of where you live it may be both mascara and plating.

Truth be told, like most women inconvenienced by mask mandates, she gave up rouge and mascara.
