GoldFinger1969
I'll await the experts and semi-experts, but to this novice it is post-mint damage. The quarter is worth $0.25. Maura and Mike Meenderink 1
Popular Post Sandon
Your 1979-D quarter is worn, scratched and has many contact marks, which affect its evaluation. I have seen many quarters from this era with the motto and/or mint mark looking like this. Either or both circumstances could have resulted from worn dies, foreign matter on the die, and/or the wear and tear on the coin. Although the first two causes would have originated at the mint, these would be regarded as quality control issues, not mint errors, and do not give the coin any collector value. EagleRJO
Looks like a combination or wear, contact and coin wrapper damage with the latter evidenced by the circular scrape that goes through the mintmark and other characters. Maura and J P M 1
Greenstang
As mentioned, just wear and damage, nothing unusual. If you are going to be looking for errors, suggest you read up on what an actual error is. A good site for this is error-ref.com
