Welcome to the forum

This is the section for registered sets.
Please use the Newbie Forum for further posts.

Before anyone can help, we will require a clear photo of both sides of each coin you
have a question about. To avoid confusion, only one coin per post please.
Also a clear explanation of what you want to know about each coin.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Welcome to the NGC chat board.

I agree with what @Greenstang has said regarding using the "Newbie Coin Collecting Questions" forum and posting clear, cropped photos of any coins about which you want to ask us.

As a new collector, it is very important that you follow the saying, "Buy the book before the coin", which nowadays would include use of appropriate websites. Please see the following topics on the "Newbie" forum for recommended print and online resources to assist you in learning how to identify, grade, and value U.S. coins:

Hello and welcome to the forum!

As a new collector, it is important for you to become educated to self grading coins without wildly plunging into values. If your self grading is wrong, your perceived value will also be wrong.

I recommend at a minimum that you obtain a new copy of the Redbook as well as obtaining a copy of the ANA Grading Standards for US coins 7th edition. Being this is all new to you, you can obtain the 6th edition of the ANA book for much cheaper than the newer 7th edition. You can find the 6th edition for as little as $12 on eBay. Also avail yourself of the resources mentioned by @Sandon.

If you can more accurately get close to the grade of the coins you are obtaining, then you can refer to the price guide on this website which is updated more regularly than any of the guides in available books.

Of other note, you will not be aware of problem coins, i.e. cleaned, whizzed, bent, repaired, etc. and that can only come over time by viewing hundreds if not thousands of coins.

Feel free as stated to post clear, cropped photos of both sides of the coins you have questions about as well as closeups of any particular areas in question.

Also, welcome to the hobby and I hope you find as much enjoyment in it as some of us here do!

Welcome....do alot of reading of the threads here. xD

Decide WHAT you want to collect....and also decide if it matters to you if you put $$$ into coins that don't have much investment appeal.  This is not a hobby to "invest" in -- you are speculating, if anything -- as your love for coins and the hobby itself are the reason to buy coins.  But if you buy coins that appeal to you or are of interest to you...you should know how much future volatility you could see in their future price.

However, if you put $500 or $10,000 into certain coins, if their going down in value 25% or 50% or 65% would cause you agita, then look before you leap and ASK QUESTIONS from the vets here.  (thumbsu

If you are only inspired by money or value you are in the WRONG hobby. You must be inspired by the coins. Only then will you unlock ANY potential REWARDS. READ COIN BOOKS don't buy coins. Don't be sorry.
