Hello, I was left a bunch of coins from grandmother. Since I was never really into it I'm just now going through a few of them. Here is one if someone could help me with what do you think a dealer would sell this for

I would first look for a match with known varieties for that early date half dime ...

Also, what error were you thinking the coin has as I just see wear and damage.

Welcome to the forum.

That is not an error, that is damage from being punched on the obverse. This would greatly devaluate
the half dime as it is now damaged. Along with the amount of wear, it would be an album filler.
Hard to give a value to it, some might say it is only worth bullion value because of the condition and  I   doubt if a dealer would buy it but you might get more for someone looking for a filler.

Also the prices on the NGC site are for certified coins, because of the damage yours is not certifiable.

Maybe I'm misreading your post eagle, but this poster is not the same as that who has the 1825 bust half, two different members.

Nope, you didn't misread, I did.  I saw two posts back to back talking about older early 1800's coins and assumed it was the same person without looking closely.  Fixed, and I would still look for a variety match first.

It is difficult to tell from the OP's photos, but I think it may be the 1837 Large 5C LM-1 H10C Valentine : V-3 variety. Looking at the date numerals I don't see a close match to the other varieties based on the shape and position of the numerals, and I think I might see the tail at the bottom of the seven in the variety I mentioned. I have included a photo of the date closeup from the NGC VarietyPlus page showing the lowered tail of the 7 at the end of this post.

For one of these in VG-F condition, its price guide listing is basically $70-85, but that is for a coin without the damage present on the OP's coin, which has some very heavy damage affecting both sides of the coin. As for what a dealer would pay for it in the condition as it sits, I would say not much at all if not just taking a pass on it being it might be hard for a dealer to sell with that amount of damage.

You should just keep that coin or give it to a young collector in your family or friends. It is not worth more than $30.00 due to damage and condition.

Thank you
