This sure looks like doubling to me, but I could be wrong. If not, e'm I getting close to what one might look like. Very interesting hm

RJO that's funny, I was just thinking the same. I really don't like looking at zinclons for anything, but this was just not to be noticed. What sucks on the zinc penny's is, or I feel to much bubbles, grainy as you mentioned and just poorly minted. Your right when the coin has alot of that going on, its seeing optical illusion. I still like to stick with cooper, I feel there more desirable when looking for errors.

Very often with the current single squeeze method the mint uses to make dies the doubling will only be in the center of the coin and not affect the outer lettering or designs.   Having said that, I do not see anything that looks like a doubled ear on the op's coin.

That's too bad the mint went with a single squeeze method for dies.  Eliminated a lot of interesting errors.
