Who's Got the Guinea?

The lead line sounded promising enough...

"The big find was nearly pristine--and extremely rare--a 1766 King George III gold Guinea... and then someone uncovered a femur." -Rowan Today, August 2, 2022.

A "paper of record," oddly, made no mention of it, but stated, "little known today, the Battle of Red Bank [N.J.] was brief and ferocious, marking one of the worst defeats the Hessians suffered in the war" that apparently lasted just 75 minutes with 377 Hessian soldiers and just 14 Americans dead.

This occurred on October 22, 1777 when a small group of Continental Army soldiers repelled a major assault by Hessian mercenaries after a British officer was dispatched to deliver an order: "The King of England orders his rebellious subjects-- (after the Declaration of Independence?)-- to lay down their arms. If they stand battle, no quarter will be given."

A professor goes on to detail "stunning battlefield discoveries" made some 245 years after the battle, with all three accounts providing pertinent photographic documentation and intricate forensic analysis, but not one records the final resting place of that gold Guinea. If you dear member, or anyone lurking nearby, heard or read the news, announced within the past week, and knows the disposition of that coin by all means, speak up!

As an appetizer - guineas are great coins to collect. Token has a good reference book on them if anyone is interested. QA - looking to expand your horizons?

No, not looking to expand my horizons. My world has telescoped downward. I got back from the hospital with both bad news--and worse: I fell and could not get up. Nobody could figure out why. And then, "By the way, you tested positive for Covid-19." And I mention this here because at Post Time, I was fine. My wife and I have been vaxed and boosted.  Now I am behind a walker and was "infused" with an experimental drug, not approved by the FDA, administered with Emergency Use Authorization. I feel it important other members know one of their own has been infected. There is nothing like being incapacitated to remind one of his mortality.

BTW, very considerate of you to put a face on a coin I had never seen before! (thumbsu

Now dammit, you need to be careful! I’ve got really bad knees and even getting out of bed can be a struggle. But I MIGHT be one of those COVID immune freaks. My wife tested positive with a weak pink line a few weeks ago and I STILL haven’t caught “The Vid”. Occasionally I have a cough or two, but I used to get those all the time before 2020 too. I am disinclined to test until I experience something different than “background level” respiration issues. I refuse to go “full goose bozo panic porn”. I also have the best darned health insurance known to modern man.

Funny how the last time I was in the hospital, amongst the flotsam and jetsam flowing non-stop into and out of my room, was an ambulance-chasing orthopedic surgeon who introduced herself, withdrew her business card from a pocket with a flourish preparing to proffer it to me, but not before asking, in words garbled by her face mask, "Whu* **sur*nce d* **u ha**?  I told her, and with a stunned, "never-heard-of-it" demeanor,  stammered, "What's that?"  Needless to say, wheeling around smoothly on one heel, and deftly replacing her card, she was out the door in a flash. Did this really happen, or did I imagine it? I was left wondering?

I am up and about now, but a simple fall was my wake-up call. After all, without your health, exactly what have you got?  🤔

My thanks to @Zebo for putting a face on that coin. :)

Alabama is THE ULTIMATE for ambulance chasers. There is no such thing as "no-fault" first-person medical coverage in automobile coverage, so EVERY accident is some lawyer's dream. Every third ad on TV is for some ambulance chasing firm. We can do it because there are no such things as gambling ads. No DraftKing, no state lottery, NUTHIN'. I'm shocked they even allow the Triple Crown horse races to be broadcast. As result of the above, many hospitals will turn away auto accident cases without great "other" medical insurance. When they treat auto accident cases, they'll need to wait years to get paid.
