Ktburrell
I Have never come across a coin like this. I need to know what to do with it. I put a ? Mark at the date because the last number is hard to tell. The whole coin is one of a kind

The Neophyte Numismatist
Agree with @l.cutler. This is a damaged 1940 wheat cent. Perhaps you have some grease that filled the die, but it is really too damaged to tell at this point. Unfortunately, it is not very collectible in this shape. But, it's still fun to see older coins in change - still doing their job. Welcome to the forum! Coinbuf
Oldhoopster
Sorry, but it is badly damaged. Something like this cannot come from the minting or die making process Coinbuf
Coinbuf
Same as above, just a damaged coin is all I see. I would spend it but nothing wrong with sticking it into a flip if that is what you want to do.

RWB
Spend it. Common damage. Do you think any national mint would release coins looking like that? (Also, try reducing the software image compression on your phone/camera - parts of your photos are blurry because of that.)
VKurtB
Almost ALL damaged coins are “one of a kind”. It still doesn’t matter.
