FPF
Hello, I recently picked up this 2 cent coin as part of another purchase. The "5" in the date just doesn't appear to be positioned correctly. Can anyone tell me if this is a counterfeit or not? Thank you for your help.
Member: Seasoned Veteran DWLange Posted May 2, 2022 Member: Seasoned Veteran Share Posted May 2, 2022 The photo is a little blurry, but there's nothing that suggests a counterfeit. The 1865 issue was coined with two different date styles, the Plain 5 (your coin) and the Fancy 5. You can see good examples of each at NGC's VarietyPlus website. FPF
okay, thank you. It appeared odd to me as when looking at it without a camera lense, the 5 appears to be slightly askew from the other three numbers.. My wife tells me both the 6 and the 5 are a little off.
