Thank you for all the info. It's a bit overwhelming lol. How do I polish my change after I clean it in vinegar? Also on these this is great. I assume this was taken on a phone? If so now go into edit and crop it so the coin is most of the picture. You want to get as close to the coin as you can that the phone will sharply focus and take the pic. Then go to edit and crop it to remove some of the edges and make the coin larger. Just don’t crop to the extent it sacrificed image quality. Just Bob
Better. Pictures one and four have a bit too much glare, and are still slightly fuzzy. Two and three are clearer. If you are holding your phone in your hand, try placing it on something stable, like a stack of books. Even your heartbeat can make the camera shake slightly. Lem E
What I usually do is use a coffee cup or as Bob suggested a stack of books or something to give a little distance between the phone and the coin to let a little light in. You may have to adjust your set up a little depending on your light source. Zoom in on the coin to where it fills most of the screen and click. Just make sure the phone is stable on the cup or books to where there is no shake when you hit the button. Then you can go into edit and finish crop. Just play around with it and you will get the hang of it. Coinbuf and Deana2874 1

A couple refinements already suggested, and you'll be able to present photos we can evaluate. Note that it is okay to supplement the full pics with zooms of areas in question (necessary for repunched mint marks and so on). Armed with that information, some pretty sharp observers equipped with 40+ years of experience and good references regarding known errors are in position to help you a lot. Your next step would be to get a current Red Book, the bible of US coinage, and an ANA grading guide. That would help you filter out a lot of questions by enabling you to know the answers yourself--quicker and more self-sufficient. Get a 10x magnifier and look for the kinds of doubling of letters and design elements that Mr. Lange mentions. Post your questions and photos here so that members can give you honest, truthful assistance....not the YouTube lies. “Throw away the YouTube stuff”. I second this wholeheartedly. When it comes to coins, the more YouTube videos you watch, the dumber you get. Deana2874
