Golden rails to Ft. Knox 0

Wonder what it was like to be on one of these first two trains heading to Fort Knox loaded with gold.

Dear Sir:

It is now understood between the Bureau of the Mint and the Post Office Department that the first shipment of gold for transportation to Fort Knox will leave from Philadelphia on January 12^th at 7 A.M. The loading at the Mint will start at 7 o’clock on the night of January 11^th. The first train will arrive at Fort Knox at 7 o’clock on the morning of January 13^th.

It is understood that the second shipment will be made from New York on January 19^th. Loading will start at the Assay Office at 7 o’clock in the night of January 18^th.

Each train will be composed of four cars.

West Virginia. There was a speed limit and clear track order.

Either route would have been fun to see. I've ridden through the Horseshoe curve a few years ago - very heavily traveled.

I've pulled the B and B circus train several times, all opposing trains were in the siding waiting on us, green signals, clear shot, non stop. I can't imagine the priority of a 'gold train'. No way they're going to stop it, hi ball!
