Damage or an error?? 0

I am very new to coin collecting. I found this coin and am wondering if it is damaged or may be an error.

Welcome to The Forum. At first glance, it appears that your coin was struck by a broken die. Looking at the edge, however, it is oddly shaped in that area. Can you provide a picture of the reverse side?

The coin appears to have been damaged, perhaps caught in something that spins like a coin counting machine, which damaged the rim area.
