GBrad
Found this one in a bank roll last night. Am I correct in calling this a struck thru die cap? Under magnification I believe I can see a very faint partial date of 199 but the fourth number is not visible. It is a zinc coming in at 2.5 on my scale. Just wish it didn’t have the “gunk” on it.......

Greenstang
Looks like a late stage struck through die cap. Nice find in the wild. Try soaking in acetone for 24 hours. It might remove some of the gunk.
GBrad
Thanks Greenstang! I did read about acetone and I’m glad you suggested that. If this coin has value to it I definitely don’t want to mess it up.

KarenHolcomb
Looks like a Dryer Coin to me. Am I incorrect?
Greenstang
Am I incorrect? This time, yes
GBrad
I’m sorry but you are incorrect. This is definitely not a dryer coin. If it was, there would be visible damage to the obverse rim which you can see is in excellent condition. The reverse of the coin has no damage as well.
