Would anyone know if a single person, group, company, museum, etc. owns a large sum of the 1958 Vatican City Pope Pius XII gold 100 Lire coins? There were 3000 struck. I am writing a fiction novel and plan on having 1000 stolen in the 1960s. Don't want to run into problems if a museum or person owns 2500.

If it's a book of fiction, I don't think it matters.  Might seem unrealistic to someone who knows the coin, just like someone stealing several 1933 Saint-Gaudens from collectors when there is only one coin available.
