The colouring has no significance. Copper can tone to many different colours.

Also I have asked this post be moved to the appropriate Forum. It has nothing to do with Registry.

thank you for explaining that because i have brick red pennys and now i know they are nothing important.

Dark red cents and nickels typically are metal detector finds that were buried for a time. The same applies to our clad coins made since 1965, as they are mostly copper, too.
