The colouring has no significance. Copper can tone to many different colours.

Also I have asked this post be moved to the appropriate Forum. It has nothing to do with Registry.

Dark red cents and nickels typically are metal detector finds that were buried for a time. The same applies to our clad coins made since 1965, as they are mostly copper, too.
