Penny on different planchet

I have a 1963 penny that appears to have been struck on a different planchet then the of copper.  The color is uniform with no variations on both obverse and reverse as well as the rim.   I am wondering if this is a rare thing?  It is non metalic and appears to be of possibly nickle alloy.
