toned 1878 morgan? or just dirty?

Is it the pictures, or does this coin have some extreme die polishing around the eagle's legs and tail feathers?

It's toned, but it isn't the sort of toning that is much sought after. I would say it slightly hurts the grade, but the details are there for an AU-55 unless there's some evidence of a very old cleaning that we can't see.

Thats awesome, thank you very much. I think I remember my grandad telling me that story. Now that I’m looking through his Morgan’s, all of his 1878 are 7/8 tail feathers. There is a case of 23 uncirculated ones and and a bag full of loose. I tend to like the toned better. I’m going to the F.U.N. Show tomorrow and trying to pick all the best coins from his collection to have graded. You guys have helped me a lot. Thanks
