It's a nice-looking coin, but I don't believe it is a Special Mint Set coin.

What makes people believe that they are just floating around out there waiting to be found among the gazillions of regular 1964's? None of them to date have been found that way. Not even one of the 1964 SMS coins were just plucked from roll stock. But hey, I guess some people got suckered by Geraldo Rivera's "Al Capone's Vault" TV extravaganza too.

So from exactly WHAT in all that is anything that indicates any were just "found" among ordinary 1964's?? It doesn't! All these came from sets that can be traced back to the then mint director Eva Adams (surprise, surprise - yet another Mint Director making special stuff for themselves). It says some in those sets were NOT SMS coins, NOT that some SMS coins came from somewhere other than the sets. Think! The converse is not true!

Look at the unbelievably strong "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the extremely strong detail on the olive branches and arrows on the SMS coins. Then look at yours. What about this is so difficult for some people?????

No, what he is actually saying is that some of the half dollars that were included in the sets with the other SMS coins were regular circulation strike half dollars. It is also noted that every half came from one die pair, and every coin has the die markers listed, including the "teardrop" on the numeral "4," which your coin does not have.
