No copper core. Whatever metal it is Washington’s face has trouble appearing in the strike, leading me to think that it’s a tougher metal than the usual composition.

Did you weigh it? It s most likely a plated quarter. When this series first came out, there were numerous places plating these and selling them as souvenir or novelty coins.
