PL VERSE STAR DESIGNATION

Dear NGC, I own a couple of business strike  (NOT SMS) Kennedy Halfs that are very similar in appearance. One of the half dollars garnered a PL designation,  the other  a STAR. In the eyes of a grader, what differentiates a PL from a STAR in a business strike Kennedy. Both coins are  white coins by the way. Thank you.

Oftentimes a star designation is given to a coin that is not sufficiently reflective on both sides to warrant the PL designation. It may be PL on one side only. A similar situation applies to proof coins that are Cameo on one side but not the other. A coin that is Ultra Cameo on one side and merely Cameo on the other may be labeled PF Cameo with a star.
