1951 wheat penny 2.31 grams? 0

Just found this penny notice right off the bat. Something was off besides it worn. There is got to be a reason for this weight.

Appears so have been soaked in acid or other corrosive.

Not the best of pictures to see any detail but I agree with Conder101 that the most plausible answer is that it has been dipped in acid which ate away some of the copper.
