1971-D Kennedy Half Dollar - Mint Mark Error? 0

I am new here and was wondering if this 1971-D Kennedy Half has a mint mark error.

I have looked at a lot of mint marks and have never seen one like this.

Opinions on whether it is an actual error and worth sending in for certification would be much appreciated.

Not an error, just taken a hit. You can see where whatever hit the MM moved the metal inwards.

Agreed with Greenstang....the D got smacked.  This kind of thing is fairly common on coins that have circulated and the bigger the coin, the more of a chance it has to take a ding from a hit.  Kennedy Halves provide a pretty big target to hit for other coins, keys etc.
