What kind of 1964 penny is it

I have a 1964 penny with a mint mark what looks to be a the shape of a state and an EM in the center of it no idea what kind of penny is or what kind of mint mark that is

Should be ME not EM.  State of Maine.  Private firms have been making counterstamped cents with the different states on them for decades.  They have no premium value so every now and then people who received them as gifts or inheritance just roll them up and dump them into circulation.  

Do a google search for counterstamped penny states and you will turn up several threads on CoinTalk about them.

Those counterstamped cents may also be found with flags,  profile outlines of John Kennedy,  and other designs.
