What does it stand for 0

I came a cross a 1974 D quarter. There is an L letter under the mint mark. I was wondering if it means something or it is a minor error.

Hello and Welcome,

To answer your initial question it doesn't stand for anything.  That's because what you have there isn't an L, it's an example of some strange looking post minting damage.  From the pics, it looks like a gouge to me that just happened to take a form similar to the letter L. As such, it isn't an error or worth any premium over face value.
