We all have heard the words "Buy the coin, not the Holder."

For the most part I try and do that. 

As an example:

Please discuss your thoughts on the AU grade and post one if you have one.

I find AU coins attractive compared to some MS coins and cheaper for some series/coins in general!

Coins at each and every assigned grade level can range from terrible to wonderful.

To my eyes, that Monroe falls into the “wonderful” (and gorgeous) category.

[Old-school]

I've seen many AU coins that look better than low MS. A 62 for example, may not show signs of wear, but have weak strike with poor detail, and a 58 May show a little rub/wear but was struck with fresh dies leaving strong detail. Always buy the coin, not the holder. Unless of course you collect slabs that is.

I've had a lot of offers on this one.  They said they buy them

looking like this one, all day. I had sold it an asked for first shot if they wanted to sell it.

Thankfully he wanted to sell and I bought it back.

Others I've sold nice coins to, haven't given me first shot.
