Liberty goes from small to big letters?

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does the red one spell Liberty starting with small letters then ending in bigger ones? Maybe ive been up too long

The most likely explanation that I can think of is that the die was resurfaced (ground down) near the edge, and that made those letters more shallow. Since the designs on the die are wider at the surface than in the deepest part, that would make the letters smaller when some of the surface is removed.
