1971D error penny

2 posts in this topic

Can anyone tell me anything further about this date error? Is it documented anywhere? Is it actually doubled? Or is it some other sort of error? Or is it just nothing? Is it worth anything? If it’s real, does it need to be authenticated? Sorry for all the questions in advance. Welcome to the forum.

I do not see any actual doubling of the date unless there might be some slight machine doubling, which is caused by movement of the die when striking, among other causes. That type of doubling is fairly common, comparatively speaking, and does not bring a premium.

Keep searching. :)
