1901 Indian Head error?

I found a 1901 Indian Head penny and it looks like it has a small number 5 above the 3rd feather of the headdress. Is this possible? If so what does that mean? I can't upload a picture right now so I will do that as n as I can.

Without seeing it there is no way to give an answer.  You might be seeing something that isn't really there (Don't take that wrong, the mind has a natural tendency to try to see things in random patterns/data.)  Another possibility is that someone simply punched a 5 into the coin.  That happens a lot when someone gets a new set of metal punches, they just have to find something to test them on and coins are nice and convenient.
