I have one of these from 1968, just like this one at Numista, and here's what I can't fathom: in what language is the obverse legend? Not modern English; not French; not Latin, though not so far from Latin. Not Cornish. What were they getting at with this?

All the Guernsey cows speak it, too; very special breed.

So that is the reason some milk shops boast that they use only Guernsey squeezings. I'd bet they can get passionate when they come up against Jersey partisans, kind of like soccer hooligans on the old moloko.
