Roosevelt Dime ~ Anomaly ?

5 posts in this topic

I'm seeking some assistance here in trying to identify the cause of the anomaly on the 'Reverse' of the Roosevelt dime. I know there is an abundance of expertise here, in the many experts being in the numismatic arena. All professional replies are welcome. Thank you very much.

First, that's a Roosevelt Dime, not a "liberty dime."

Second, the reverse appears to have been machined flat. It doesn't look like a mint made error to me - it looks like post mint damage.

Surely, misrepresentation on our part which has been corrected. Thank you for your input.

PMD (post mint damage)

It is abrasion. Put a dime on a concrete sidewalk, step on it and slide it along.

Yes, that may stand to reason. However, not all surfaces are flat as the signature remains largely intact with minor abrasions.
