1834 $5 Capped Bust BD-3

 

 

I was always under the impression there was only 2 different 1834 Capped Bust $5 pieces. One die marriage for a Crosslet 4 and another for a Plan 4. In doing some bored searching I come across a BD-3. Well it appears I learned something new.

 

Is there a BD-4?

Yes. BD-1 and -3 have the Plain 4, while BD-2 and -4 have the Crosslet 4. BD-4 is unique, according to the Bass/Dannreuther book.
