Dearth of "Plus" grades for NGC World Coins?

4 posts in this topic

PCGS seems to use the "+" often enough, if not liberally, on world coins.

The NGC world team doesn't seem to want to use it except rarely. Does anyone else get this same perception?

NGC posted grades for 50 coins I submitted last month at CICF, and none had a "+". You'd think, if a "+" is meant for a high end coin that doesn't quite make the next grade, at least a couple in every 50 would get said designation.

I would prefer if both NGC and PCGS eliminated the "+" grade but they won't because its purpose is to generate submissions.

The difference between two numerical grades - already numismatic minutia - is just additional numismatic minutia.

The plus is a marketing scheme. It means nothing.

Theoretically, between 25-33% of all coins graded should have a plus, if it meant what they said it did (or if it was applied consistently).

But it doesn't, and they don't.
