Delays at grading services due to new moderns

6 posts in this topic

I spoke with a dealer yesterday who has been experiencing major delays in regular and an express submission log-in times due to the huge backlog created by the modern releases.

I checked the PCGS shared orders page which turned up this submission which went 10/10 in getting the top grade: https://www.pcgs.com/Membership/sharedorder.aspx?OrderNo=21048706&Year=2016&Month=5

Interesting Nutmeg Coin, I didn't know that data is open to public. I sent out my 5 coin submission to NGC last Monday and it arrived on Wednesday. When I checked my track submission; it says "no details available yet." I wonder if that's because of the overburden with these moderns that you share? Never submitted before so don't know how long it takes for information to be available once they receive coins.

I just hope they take time in grading my business strike coins and judgment isn't skewed by looking at all those MS70 darlings...hope NGC crew get plenty of breaks.

I wonder...with these large influxes of modern releases, and the overburden it may create with professional graders, would it impact the quality of grades with submissions during that particular cycle?

No bias or change of standards due to backlogs--they just take more time. I wouldn't be surprised if some type of high tech grade screening is not going on with the moderns, with a finalizer or quality control specialist verifying the final result on "perfect" coins. Same as at the US mint.
