1880-s Doubling?

Can't tell from the photo. Check on www.vamworld.com. They have a few thousand Morgan dollar varieties photographed and described.

You've been here long enough to know that we can't tell you anything from those pictures.

 

All I can tell you is that it is a cleaned AU.

 

I can see the doubling on my high resolution scans but can't see it on many of the VAMs of the date.

ok, no you don't have to look thru all the date varieties. First off vams are die pairs, obverse and reverse.

First determine which reverse you have. There is a page on the site explaining the reverses. At the top

of each vam page it lists the reverse type. For instance "C3c" reverse. Then look only at those reverses

and try and determine what type "S" is on the reverse. This will help you get down to a smaller number to look at. Also on alot of the pages there are photos of a feature that has to be there to be that vam. If you do not have that feature go on. Then you start looking at the date match.

 

By the way all morgans are a Vam. Most vams do not add any value. Generic moragns with no feature are usually classified as a vam-1
