1916D and 1942/1 Merc dimes?

7 posts in this topic

I was looking at some coins and came across these from years ago and wonder if they are legit. These were given toward a debt and getting something was better than nothing but I question if the 1916D has been stamped twice with the D. It appears there might be a second D stamped right below the 'E" in ONE.

The 1942/1 has a scratch on Liberty's head that runs vertically from the top of her head down to the ear and I don't know if it will get slabbed or not.

Thank you for looking and I would appreciate opinions of whether they are a) legit and b) worth grading?

you take worse pictures than I do.... I really can't tell anything on the 16 d but the 42/41 looks good and I can't see anything in the photo that would stop it from grading

If you want to sell these, and due to the high number of fakes that exist, I would likely give grading one shot. The scratch on the 42/1 might be considered PMD but even in a genuine holder could make it more marketable. If you plan to hold them then grading is not really important.
