Unique anniversary memento...

6 posts in this topic

Was curious to know if any of you have seen coins used and presented in this manner to honor a corporations anniversary? This Morgan was entombed in lucite back in 1969, and either it was cleaned before it was sunk in the lucite, or, surfaces altered from this process. I realize very common date Morgan, and worth melt today. This is my "break in case of emergency" Morgan.

Second question is- were common date Morgans viewed less collectible then in 1969 than they are relative today?

At the time, these were often thought of a very special items - few people had seen a silver dollar in circulation. There is a small group of collectors who prize these and similar presentation dollars.

thats kinda neat looking.

Maybe whole package is neat looking, but the coin has had the devil polished out of it.

Don't get any ideas about "liberating" the coin from its Lucite prison.

Well considering common date BU Morgans cost about $2.50 each retail in 1969 and AU's under $2 each I'd say yes.
