Tai ping coins

7 posts in this topic

I'm interested in buying a Tai ping coin or two after reading a great book on the rebellion. I noticed there are many listed, from Chinese sellers, on eBay. (was outbid on the latest Steve album auction) . My question is, are any of them legit/real and even if they are, is it even legal to purchase antiquities direct from China these days?

Anyone have one authenticated in their collection they're willing to sell?

I'd be very worried about authenticity, especially from sales originating in the country that seems to produce the greatest volume of counterfeit numismatics in the entire world.

Almost any "antiquity" you buy direct from China will have been manufactured last month - that's as ancient as it gets.
